Gladys shares an image of a typhoon heat map.

In Scrapism class, we develop practices of pulling, cutting up, and detourning text from both our personal collections and online. Participants have been working on constructing archives of these gathered materials surfacing new emotional and political narratives from the original sources. You can see our class’s growing archive of inspiration and resources on our are.na channel.

Nat shares a web of particle strands spread out over a black background, each letter in either in green, white, or purple.Esther shares A Small Bouquet made of text that inspired her project.Jacob shares a poem called Peace pothole problem constructed from scraped material from construction worker forums.Richard Serra’s Verb List inspiration for a student project.Xingshan scrolls a page showing ChinaDaily, the official English language website of China, and then turns her wifi off and ChinaDigitalTime, a collection of censored and deleted articles on the Chinese internet, appears beside the original text column.Bold green neon text on a black background outlining URGENTCRAFT’s radical publishing principles. Some of the Scrapism class’s links, sources and references laid out in an arena board grid.
